Premature ejaculation

Premature ejaculation occurs when a man orgasms more quickly than desired with minimal sexual stimulation, causing distress in sexual relationships. It can be categorized as lifelong/primary (always present since first sexual experiences) or acquired/secondary (developed later in life). Causes may include low self-esteem, depression, sexual abuse history, anxiety, stress, or relationship problems. Dapoxetine is used to treat this condition.

Indications:

Dapoxetine belongs to the group of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Dapoxetine is used to treat premature ejaculation in adult men aged 18-64 years. 

Pharmacology

Dumax 60 works by inhibiting serotonin reuptake in neurons, which enhances serotonin activity. This mechanism affects a complex network of spinal and cerebral regions involved in the central ejaculatory neural circuit.

Dosage:

• Start with a dose of 30 mg, taken 1 to 3 hours before sexual activity.
• Increase to 60 mg if needed and side effects are manageable.
• The maximum dosage frequency is once every 24 hours.

Administration of Dapoxetine

Dapoxetine should only be used if you are diagnosed with premature ejaculation. It can be taken with or without food as instructed by your doctor. It is usually taken as needed, one to three hours before sexual activity. It is not intended for regular daily use. Avoid taking more than one tablet within 24 hours. 

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:

• Phenothiazine (thioridazine)
• Antipsychotic (lithium)

• Antidepressant (nefazodone)
• Blood thinner (warfarin)
• Erectile dysfunction agents (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil)
• Calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, verapamil)
• Antiemetics (aprepitant)
• Agents for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
• Anti-migraine medicines

Contraindications

Avoid Dumax 60 if allergic to dapoxetine hydrochloride or if you have significant cardiac conditions like heart failure or certain conduction abnormalities.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Dumax 60 is not recommended for use in women. It is not known to be excreted in human breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings

Use caution in patients with conditions like angle-closure glaucoma, bleeding disorders, epilepsy, or high intraocular pressure. Dumax 60 can cause sudden drops in blood pressure, so rise slowly from sitting or lying positions.
